[Album Review] Tuface Idibia – The Unstoppable (2008)

Tuface Idibia - The Unstoppable (2008)
I decided to forgive 2face for that insult he called an album mid last year, I cant remember what it was called because I launched it into orbit somewhere around Sanusi Fafunwa.
Well I have “The Unstoppable” here with me and I’m hoping 2Baba can redeem himself with this effort.
INTRO
This is kinda nice but it does feel a little overdone and the little thug harmony thang just feels wrong for 2face…
JUNGLE DON MATURE
I got the message; You’re trying to promote your new record label: Hypertek. The sad thing about this track is that while it could possibly have been a great song, the lyrics and in fact the entire song ends up sounding quite forced and unatural.
TAKE IT BACK
The production on this is actually quite decent. I can see it getting some good air play but, there’s nothing spectacular about it. It’s a very generic formula track. The rapping by some dude called ?Carter? is also decent, though to be honest he sounds more to me like a less lyrically gifted and more shallow version of Zion I Come to think of it Nigerian DJ’s will probably assault me in the club with this.
OUTSIDE
What the effing hell is this gay ish???
CANT DO WITHOUT YOU
Marginally less gay but still very weak… I can certainly do without this song in my life. This Melissa Briggs chick got a decent voice. We could have done without Tuface.
FREE
This song has Marley (Bob, Damian and all a dem) written all over it. Still its quite refreshing from the gayness of the last two tracks and oh wow 2face is actually trying something a little different vocally… hmm I think Dare was a good influence on him… Maybe a quick class with Mode 9 or MI so he can learn to stop using corny ass lines like “zoom zoom zoom… i’ve been to the moon…”
PAKO
Ok this song will probably get mad air and club play its the kind of wack stuff Nigerians gobble up…man this guy is lyrically anorexic…get your weight up son…
SO PROUD (REMIX)
ooh Chaka Demus and Pliers… Seems more like their song featuring 2face rather than the other way around wtf? He just barely managed not to get completely outclassed and outshined on his own song…
FLEX
R. Kelly just regurgitated something he did like in the early 90’s or something. Quite weak on all counts and the lyrics are just plain lame… Random question who do you think has more kids? Get it?
OH PAPA
Over dramatic. The track is way too powerful for 2face.. Completely overshadows him. I keep wishing he would shut up and let me listen to that piano.
GO DOWN THERE
Whatever. Lame.
EXCUSE ME SISTER
Just how gay is he going to get on this album??? Damn…
APPRECIATE IT
hmm.. now we’re talking… this is 2face. nice? track.
ENTER THE PLACE
Can anyone say Kolomentality… ok I’ll let this slide cuz they all started out together so their styles must cross at some point. Sound Sultan didn’t add anything to the track but I can see a club banger here…
FEELING YOU (SWALLOW YOUR PRIDE REMIX)
Produced by B.Howard (USA) so what? The USA beside the production credit is supposed to lend some credibility to this wack track?
I SING
Aiight straight of the bat I’m feeling this beat. Pity the lyrics are lame.
SEE IT COMING
Some people have been listening to too much Damian Marley. but not bad. Ok this is really sad I was feeling the track till 2face came on. So sad…
FLY
Fly, Fly, Fly, Fly out of my life
OUTRO
whew its over.

Tuface Idibia - The Unstoppable (2008) Album Cover Back
Tuface is a long way from being The Unstoppable and this is by far the weakest of his 3 albums (I refused to acknowledge the existence of that thing he released last year). The Unstoppable is a good album by most Nigerian standards but not mine. I look for innovation, creativity and passion and this album gives me none of the above. 5 years ago, maybe even 2 years ago this would have stood out especially with the big names he has on this album but honestly this album is dated. This cat has got the itis right now and its dulling him seriously, but fans of Tuface will most likely love it.

This is a bold review. I must say you have some balls. Nigerians will skin you alive for even thinking about telling the truth, especially when it involves Tu’Baba. But, truth be told…the album is a weak offering. Before this album (and the mishap that preceded this album), I would have said ‘international status’ but now…maybe Benue will jump to this.
I bought the album on the first day of release, listened to it and gave it out two hours after…fuggid about that stuff about music growing on you…this album doesnt cut it. Thanks bro…for the truth. May the force be with you. LOL
No be small thing o! Different strokes for different folks. This album is much different from his first two but I think it still reflects 2 Faces super talent. Those who don’t feel it may be (to quote the blogger’s poem)’listening too carefully’.
For those vexing with Grumpy Old Man, he’s got every right to yarn his mind as much as you’ve got a right not to read it. Yes o!
I have this album and I can see its the most adventorous of any naija artist. It was not old plain tuface but different styles. Yes enter the place sounds like kolomental, because kolomental sounded like catch the vibe, catch the feeling) from Tuface’s first album.
For me, Take it back, I sing, I appreciate it, Free, Swallow your pride and Jungle don mature are not like your everyday song from a nigerian artiste. Listen to it well.
I think Tu baba will pay for being experimental with this album, but its a 7/10 for me and better than most rubbish out there (Timaya’s got just one style and he is selling. Dbanj’s got 3 good songs on his album and people are shouting). That is naija for you.
I was disappointed too… but Tuface at his weakest still has much to offer. I feel im that disappointed because he raised the bar so high. I did not skip one single track on his first 2 albums.
Im expecting him to bounce back to form or evolve fully into another level.
Timayas one style at least is his… when you actually create a style you get some leeway. thats what tubaba is enjoying
I also bought this album with very high expectations and also ended up giving it out after barely two listens. For me I think it’s an extremely weak piece of work and I believe most people would see it that way too if they decide to put sentiments aside and actually listen to the album with unbiased ears.
I think a lot of people slept on this album and probably listened too hard ,the album was a bit ahead of its time and was promoted wrongly (pushing the R kelly song) but all in all a good album and as a lot of people can agree the Album has started making it back to the air waves and rocking the clubs
2face na baba. make E carry dey go
He is really UNSTOPABLE.
Hey my people all over the world, The only thing we are afraid of is (CHANGE) am sure if AKON as come out with a song like the one on Tuface’s Album u will say Great Album….Listen to the words that the song is embedded with not the usual public gong dat will all listen to without no message….The Unstoppable Album is not a street hit but its a change of song…For example GO DOWN THERE can u travel to a place where there is riotin not to talk of war…….its a shame dat we listen to just songs am sure songs collects grammy’s in America becos of its sensibility not Albums like 4kasibe with nothing to hold onto except DANCE AWAY..
This Album comes with sensible words that we can actually reflect on..Am not saying he is the best Artiste in Nigeria but with all respect this ALBUM is not bad either…
i come to undastand that people dont listen to wordies of song rather than the dance part, mostly songs that have danceable sound track, some thing like “ofokasibe” u see that poeple will like it. but in the case of tubaba is realy talented and this album is the most inspirational among the last two, except persons that dont like cool or rather danceable song. some thing we have to all know is that we as human have choice of songs and the one that plese individual, so if u dont like that of two baba then that style is not for you ok.
u jah bless no man can cause ,,, tubaba don climb pass where haters fit push am down.tu carry go,.in 2009 baba don grab 8 awards, more than 100 shows around the world, much duets, that guy na blesing 2 9ja bros just let him be.if haters like make them write trash full .baba de climb well .

Man!!! whoever did this analysis….FUCK YOU!!! I bet you can neva do a betta job….My God!!! have mercy now!!! this is why artists are damn scared of gettin exposure sometimes…2 much criticisms after they have put in a lot of friggin hard work. PLEAZE!!! Ur killin d industry. Once again….FUCK YOU!!!

Tu-baba’s unstoppable is simply one of d best. That’s what it is. No disrespect to anyone.
I never wanted to comment on da s**t u wrote there bt evrytime i browse for 9ja music news i come across dat hating pis, and some guy said Benue wil jump to dat? Sentiments! Dats y u guys kip hailin wax 4m touts like D’banj whom save 4 Don papa J (d beats) wn’t even sell in A.J. Am a lagosian, bt a fair one. Now dat d album has won an mtv mama award i hope u’d hide 4m shame. Have u eva stopd 2 ask urselves yl dis guy does more international shows than evn 9ja shows? He is a brand. A prophet has no respect at home. 9-10 yrs back u cd’nt evn write ‘bt any 9ja music cos it didn’t exist, now he’s given u d chance and hw did u use it, FOOL?
I’ve just listened to this whole album and decided to look online and compare what people thought. I often feel the most miserable people on earth are art (whether musical, film, theatrical etc) critics. Too many times they lose sight of the simpe fact that art (especially music) is a VERY SUBJECTIVE thing. Music is a language that means different things to different people and how we interpret it and like or hate it is actually irrelevant to the next person. Subjectivity is very personal. Music is very personal, so I dont give a flying f**k if you dont like this album. What I see and take from it is very different from what you see and take from it. It not about you or me. Its about what each and evry individual in his corner of the world thinks. The art is the artist’s take.. his expression. GET OFF OUR HIGH HORSES AND GET OVER YOURSELVES!!
